New revelations,(no pun intended) were released this week about Republican Senator John Ensign's affair.Apparently his family handed over $96,000" in gifts" to the mistress and her husband.These gifts were in $12,000 increments to avoid I.R.S. taxes. According to Ensign , Sen. Cobourne from Oklahoma encourage him to send millions of dollars to encourage the mistress to not go public.
It also exposed a relationship to "The Family" The Family is a fundamentalist religeous organization that operates "C Street" C Sstreet is a residence in Washington DC that provides housing for 7 Congressmen (including Ensign and Bobourne) at present. Disgraced Govoner Mark Sanford also cited a relationship to The Family and C Street during his recent nauseating confession of his hypochrisy.
The Family is so extreme in "their" interpretation of Christianity as to make Jerry Falwell and Hagee appear as Flame throwing athiest gay lovers. I saw a taped sermon and the despot's are territfying.Their position is that poeple of wealth and power were chosen by God to aquire wealth through power and power through wealth and any action or immoral transgression is acceptable. Murder, genocide or any other means that justifies the end. They endorse the actions of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and the like and state that these monsters were to be emulated and methods they used deployed because they were willing to go to any length to reach their objectives. Their philosophy and objectives are totally immoral and wholly un-Christian. I'm not a Christian but I recognize this.
So what? They are a bunch of fundamentalists who believe the aquisition of wealth through power and vice versa reached by any means necessary is acceptable. The believe the wealthy and powerful are chosen by God to to do as the will simply because the are participants who participate.
Here is the problem.This secret society exercises an unknown quantity of influence on 7 Congressman and at least 1 disgraced Govorner. The Disgraced Governor was the Chairman of the Republican Governer's Association. John Ensign was the Chairman of the Republican Senate Policy Commision.
It is safe to assume that Extreme religious fundamentalist exercize some level of influence over lawmakers who control policy in this country. This fundamentalist organization states that any action taken by these wealthy and powerful men is justifiable because God has chosen them.
Over the years I have wondered how Republican politicians could act as they have, Lies to enter an unjust war leading to the deaths of 100,000's No bid contracts to Company formerly owned by Vice President. Domestic spying, Torture. The wealthy elite destroying our financial system and getting bailouts because they were to big to fail,etc,etc.
It all makes sense now. Immoral actions are easy when God says it O.K.

The marginilzation of the faithfull
This past 4th of July,there was a tea-bag party in Austin Texas. The protest was headlined by speeches from Gov. Rick Perry and Congressman John Cornyn of Texas. They were both booed resoundingly by Republican faithfulls. They were chastised for various positions. Toll roads, stimulas bill support, etc.
I am beginning to see a trend here. Regular people who supported the GOP are starting to blame their leaders for their failures. They are starting to realize that the reason they are out of power and have lost their voice in govornment is because they have been led poorly.
Barack Obama was elected President because the "vast" majority of Americans recognized the failure in leadership of the GOP over the last 8-12 years since they controlled Congress or the presidency. The GOP's policys and positions led to the shrinking of support for ther party.
The GOP faithfull will never support the Dem's agenda but they are starting to realize that Barack Obama did not margialize their voice in govornment, their own elected officials did.
My sincere hope is that supportes of the GOP will decide to elect officials that will see to the real needs of Americans and start to offer real solutions to the problems that we face as a nation.
For example, The health care industry is spending 1.4 million dollars a day to lobby Congress to defeat health care reform. I wonder how this will translate into higher premiums next year for those who are fortunate enough to have heath insurance. Someone has to pay these lobbyist. The shareholders wont. Get out your checkbook.
P.S. Tim the statistic I gave you about Alaska's federal tax benefit was before the stim package. This fact was widely talked about during the election. I'm not bitching about where the money is going. I was pointing out that Alaska's balanced budget can to a large degree be attributed to the fact that the feds have taken the burden in a lot of vital services for Alaska. They are also one of the most impoverished states in the Union. The oil and pipeline companys seem to be doing pretty good though. I can see why she turned down heat assistance. It's so warm up there.

Al Franken finally takes his seat in the Senate
It's about time. Norm Coleman finally gave up on his fruitless attempt to undermine the will of the voters in Minnesota and conceded. He and his G.O.P. friends in Minnesota felt it was perfectly acceptable for their people to be under-represented for 6 months if it obstructed progress and undermined the president's agenda.I hope the voters remember this the next time he seeks office.
Al Franken is a very smart and funny guy. He does not mince words when explaining his positions and is hilarious in his concise observations of the issiues. I believe he is just what our govornment needs. Humor does not lie.
He will be hard pressed to get more laughs than Mark Sanford. Another hypochrite bites the dust.
My sincere hope is the Dems will set aside their waffling ways and push forward the president's agenda. Still, all this time after the election all the G.O.P. has to offer are the same policies that led to the excessive failures that our country finds itself in.
I hope our country realizes too, It takes alot more money to re-build a house than it does to burn it down.
Debt sucks but Obama didnt create the problems. He is tryng to solve them.

Know when to say when.
Since the election there has been much in the news about the GOP in exile. I'm not too tore up about that, but i have noticed something. The statements and policies that led to this exile are what they continue to endorse and exalt. I believe the reason McCain lost was he offered nothing different than the previous administration.
This is still the case.
I think the GOP would be better served to set aside their current tack of obstuctionism and continuation of the same old rhetoric and just shut the hell up.
It is like watching Miss Teen South Carolina just digging herself in deeper and deeper.
I like it, But it's kinda like watching a drunk chick's boob fall out.Funny , but creepy.
Find something the American poeple can wrap their mind around and get back to us.

The truth is whatever people will believe.
Today it was announced that the Republican party hired the advertising firm that Developed the "Swift boating" ads for the Bush campaign during the 'o4 election to fight the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court.. For those not aware of it, the ads showed veterans who supposedly served with John Kerry who stated that he did not serve his country honorable in the Vietnam War and did not deserve his medals. including the Bronze Star and I believe a couple of Purple Hearts.It was very soon widely disproved and discovered that this ad campaign totally distorted the record and character of a great patriot and warrior. I dont think he was a good candidate but that's beside the point. Many believe these lies directly contributed to the widely disputed loss to Bush.
Of course the Bush campaign claimed no responsibility.
Political commentators coined the phrase"Swift boating" after this to describe when a candidate heinously and in an over the top fashion, distorts the record and character of an opponent to gain advantage.
This was tried during the 08 campaign against Obama, IE. Secret Muslim, Not born in America, pals w/ terrorists etc. It did not work and many believe it will not work in this case. I hope not.
Having said that I would like to say this.For far too long in this country, government, Big business, pretty much anyone seeking an advantage on others is willing to lie to any degree to achieve their aims. Not just lie but perpetrate such dishonesty as to boggle the mind.

I did not have sexual relations with that woman.
I am not gay, I just have a wide stance.
I did not inhale.
I did not use steroids.

It is difficult for me to wrap my brain around this fact.In the day of videotape, cell phone cameras, the Internet and 24 hour news cycle poeple will tell the biggest bullshit lies with no fear of repercussion knowing full well they will be debunked and exposed. As long as it acquires the support they need to exploit the target of their greed or ambitions, reality and the truth are out the window. The end justifies the means. It is totally without Honor.
What we need to do as a society is start paying attention. Retain what is said and done. Explore the past and look for connections in the future that allow us to recognize the lies that lead to our peril. These entities need to be accountable. When they are found to be untruthful we need to set aside our guilt by complicity, self serving denial or apathy and stop these fuckers.
When someone lies to you they totally discount you as a human being. you become an inanimate object, unworthy of basic decency. It gives them license to do as they will.
By the way I have these magic beans for sale.

The permanent campaign
A couple of months ago Homeland security director Napolitano warned that due to our new African American president and other factors , the country faced greater risks of left and right wing extremeist activity. Conservatives demanded an apology and some called for her resignation.
Consequently , we have had 3 politically motivated murders in the last 2 months. Should she apologize for being right?
If the Bush administration had practiced such due diligence when they entered office as opposed to their own self serving policies, maybe we could have avoided 9-11.
